Following a five-year hiatus, The House of Dancing Water (HODW)—a cornerstone of Macau’s cultural identity since 2010—faced a transformed entertainment landscape. As Macau accelerated its shift toward a "World Tourism & Leisure Hub", HODW needed to reclaim its iconic status amid fierce competition from tech-driven shows and immersive experiences. The challenge: reassert HODW as a must-see spectacle while aligning with Macau’s vision for culture-led tourism.
The campaign leveraged deep consumer insights revealing that modern travelers prioritize purpose-driven, emotionally resonant experiences. Data showed 71.12% were inspired by social media influencers, while 75.5% of Gen Z relied on platforms like Douyin for discovery. This inspired the core creative idea: repositioning HODW as #THE ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME AQUATIC SHOW—a bucket-list journey worth traveling for. The strategy blended compelling narratives (behind-the-scenes teases, travel guides), diverse storytellers (KOLs, cultural voices), and star-powered activations, including a viral Blue Carpet Livestream.
Execution ignited unprecedented engagement. The hashtag #Once-in-a-lifetime Aquatic Show garnered over 130 million views across Weibo, Douyin, and RedNote, with 18 topics trended on Weibo during the premiere. Search interest surged 4,790% on RedNote and 4,539% on Douyin in comparison with previous performances. The livestream attracted over 50 million views, and HODW became a top AI-recommended experience. The revival not only sold-out performances but also cemented Macau’s status as a global entertainment destination.
