The people of the Cayman Islands had gone without local TV news since 2019, when Cayman27signed off for the last time. Since then, this basic societal need to stay informed on the issues — and equipped to act — with accurate, balanced, timely information was insufficiently filled by social media and a weekly newspaper.
In October 2024, with national elections six months away, Compass Media committed to bring national TV news back to Cayman and invest in a world-class TV news operation. As the owner of the Cayman Compass newspaper and website, top radio stations, and more, they had the resources and credibility to pursue the vision.
To make it a reality, Compass needed to craft and launch a brand with principles and values to attract talent and gain the trust of native Caymanian citizens and ex-pat residents alike. In parallel, it needed to design and build a studio, with cameras, lighting, technology, on-air talent, broadcast journalism experts, partnerships with cable TV providers, and a website for live streaming.
